Language teachers must send their CV and cover letter in the language of the position for which they are applying. 

Required personal and professional qualities:

  • Have a strong aptitude for working as part of a team, and

Preferred qualifications and experience for language teachers:

  • Possess at least one to two years of experience teaching French, English or Spanish with an excellent knowledge of the methodology of teaching these languages, and an awareness of the difficulties that may be encountered during instruction.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in at least one of the following domains: Teaching Languages, Education, Languages, French, English or Spanish Literature, Linguistics, Language Sciences, Sociology, Journalism, Political science, Law, or other related subject.
  • Hold a certificate in language teaching such as TESL, TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, FSL or FLE.
  • Have an excellent mastery of the language to be taught, with a rich vocabulary and detailed knowledge of its syntax and underlying principles.
  • Have knowledge of the fundamental principles of andragogy and pedagogy.
  • Understand the requirements of the Federal Government’s Public Service Commission language exams and the characteristics of the A, B and C proficiency levels.
  • Understand the requirements of other major foreign language exams such as TOEFL or TOEIC.
  • Demonstrate great flexibility when passing from one language level to another.
  • Speak more than one language.

Preferred qualifications and experience necessary for tutoring service instructors:

  • Hold, or be in the process of attaining, a Bachelor’s degree in Education (primary or secondary), or in the subject to be taught, such as: French, English, Math, Science, Teaching French, English, or Spanish as a Second Foreign Language, History, Geography, Computers, or other relevant subject.
  • Hold a teaching permit.
  • Have tutoring experience.
  • Know the current Ontario or Quebec curriculum for the subject(s) to be taught.
  • Be able to develop personalized learning plans.
  • Speak more than one language.
  • Have a certificate of good conduct from the police authorities.
